1.45 Million Sq Ft Redevelopment Project Approved for London's South Bank

Planning approval has been issued for a mixed-use project on London's South Bank by the Borough of Lambeth. The project incorporates new offices for Shell, several hundred homes (including affordable units) and retail facilities and totals an area of 1.45 million sq ft. Public areas are also included in the plans. It is designed by Squire and Partners for Canary Wharf Group and Qatari Diar.

8 new buildings will be constructed near the The Shell Centre Tower - a 27-storey building completed in 1961. It will, however, remain at the centre of the development. After it is complete in 2019, the scheme will encompass 800,000 sq ft of office space, 80,000 sq ft of retail, restaurants and cafes, and 800,000 sq ft of residential space with up to 877 new homes. It will be a lot of work for the cleaners in Lambeth.
